Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted. It's been a crazy, wild summer and no real let up in site. Chances are over the next few days I'll squeeze in time to post on the many things I have to catch up on, possibly more than one post a day. Lots of good stuff, videos, pictures, and more. Since I still have some videos to edit and upload to YouTube, I figured I'd start with this biggest news.
Last year around this time I shared similar news. Vegas had finished the AKC Agility Invitational year as the #3 ranked Great Dane. This year she finished as the #2 Great Dane! It was a whirlwind of a ride for sure, particularly being our first full year running in AKC. In looking back, we started the 2011 invitational qualification period with nine MACH points and no double-Qs.
This year, we ran in 15 AKC agility trials. Most were just two days. A couple were three and one was four. During this time we achieved 8 double-Qs and 212 MACH points. All the double-Qs were earned in 2011. At the end of December 2010 we had 48 MACH points.
Here are the final standings for Great Danes:
Perhaps one of the coolest things is knowing my friend and "power partner" in AKC agility, Tiffany, also earned an invitation with her Dane, Sadie. So excited for them and hope she's able to go.
The invitational this year is being held the last weekend before Christmas in Orlando, Florida. The top five of every breed are eligible to go. There is quite a contingent from the Pacific Northwest that repeatedly qualifies and it's exciting to be a part of that prestigious group. Stay tuned for whether we'll actually get to go or not.....
That's so cool! I didn't know that even if you were invited, it's $100 entry. I thought they'd waive that since you're, you know, invited. I liked seeing how tall Vegas is - 32.5! Wow! Layla is 23.5, which is relatively tall for a Malamute.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see if you guys decide to go. But, I hope you can go next year as well so I can meet you! I'm sure you guys'll be in the top 5 again. Even if Layla doesn't get invited (which I'm going to be trying my hardest to do - we have conservatively 40 trial days before June 30th and that's without trialing every weekend. It could be closer to 60 trial days. She needs 3 Q's to get in to Excellent B Standard, and I'd like to think we can achieve that in 40 separate days. QQ's would be useful but not necessary for the Invitational) I'll be going anyway. I already requested the time off work.
One would think, huh, Amy?! I know; I was kind of surprised you have to pay, too. I did last year because I thought I would make it and got a decent bag of goodies.
ReplyDeleteI am really trying to figure out how to get there this year. Vegas has worked very hard and deserves to be there and shine. It would be SO awesome to meet you and Layla, too! I know you guys will get those needed Qs!
